How it works

It's simple

1. View the footage and decide which clips you would like to download.

2. Make your film ensuring that it is between 30 seconds and 5 minutes in duration.

3. Upload your final film to YouTube and submit the URL.

4. Film Screenings will take place online in our screening room.

Follow us on Facebook for competition updates.

1. View and Download

All the clips available to you have been uploaded as viewable thumbnails to an online viewing page. Viewing and selecting the shots before you download will save you time and data costs.

Downloading is as simple as a right click on the clip you have selected. But BEFORE you start downloading choose the correct format for your editing system. For technical tips see helpful hints.

Alternatively you can request a DVD with the footage in your preferred format.

2. Make your film

The Last Ocean Charitable Trust wants to stimulate filmmakers and environmentalists to think about the values of the Ross Sea Antarctica and why it is worth protecting. We’re looking for compelling short films highlighting why the Ross Sea, Antarctica is special.

  • Research and brainstorm with others to spark ideas and creativity.
  • Short films often work well with a clear and simple storyline.
  • Less can be more.
  • Sort out your software setup correctly before starting your editing timeline.
  • Get fresh eyes to view your film as it nears completion for a second opinion.

See helpful hints for more information.

3. Upload and Submit

Upload your completed film to your YouTube Channel and complete the online registration form to submit your film. Make sure you copy and paste the filename and URL for your film into the registration form.

All films must be submitted by midnight August 12 2011.

See helpful hints for information on how to upload your film.

4. Online Film Screenings

All eligible films that have been correctly uploaded and registered will be placed into to our online screening room for viewing from August 15 2011. Follow us on Facebook and you will be notified when the screening room is online.

Get your friends to check out your entry as the number of hits each film receives will be considered in the final judging.

Winners will be announced on September 15 2011, during Conservation Week.
